In a few hours I will be boarding a plane and heading to the Yucatan Peninsula at the most southern part of Mexico.

Why? Because I have never been, of course! I have always been fascinated with ancient cultures and there are few more fascinating than the Mayans.

After seeing many  of the impressive temples in Cambodia and the Incan ruins in Peru last year, I made it a goal to visit as many ruins sites as possible and learn about these incredible cultures that were so advanced for their time.

This will also be my first ever trip abroad with a romantic counterpart and I am very excited, as I think I have met my match. He has been just as meticulous about packing well, packing light and bringing incredible gear. We have a Steripen water purifier, a Goal Zero, lightweight solar panel for charging devices, GoalZero waterproof ipod speakers, the GoPro 3 with waterproof housing and of course the Cannon 5d MarkIII. Did I mention he is a professional photographer?

Oh yeah, be ready for some mind blowing photos.

We will be touring the town of Valladolid and seeing one of the Wonders of the World, Chitzen Itza.

There are some pretty amazing cenotes which are sink holes filled with water and are well known for being incredibly beautiful for swimming and diving. The GoPro3 will be capturing some awesome footage, I can see it already.

We will also be volutneering with a non profit called Educate Yucatan. They work with the communities  to develop programs that help those most in need receive the education they deserve. We will be helping with the breakfast program and tutoring services in Cholul, a Mayan village close to Mérida.  Our goal is to gather footage and help with their future fundraising efforts so that these programs may expand to other villages.

Of course we will visit Tulum, the famous beaches where they film Corona commercials and will explore our own private beaches in paradise.

If I don’t make it back tell my bunny Pedro I love him.

Paz y Amor, Amigos.
